Meet LaVonda Lyles, M.Ed.

LaVonda Lyles is an accomplished educator and advocate dedicated to providing children with quality education and bridging the educational gap. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading Education, both earned from Bowie State University. Additionally, she obtained her Admin 1 Supervisor Certification from Loyola University. Armed with a deep understanding of pedagogy and administration, she set out to create positive change within the education system.
LaVonda's passion for teaching and empowering students led her to spend several years in the classroom. She began her career as a 5th grade teacher, where she made a significant impact on her students' lives. Recognizing the importance of early education, LaVonda later transitioned to teaching 2nd grade, where she continued to inspire and guide young learners for an additional four years.
Driven by her desire to address the specific needs of struggling readers, LaVonda took on the role of a reading specialist for three years. During this time, she employed her expertise and dedication to help students improve their literacy skills and foster a love for reading.
With her extensive experience in the field, LaVonda expanded her impact beyond the classroom by becoming an instructional lead teacher. In this capacity, she played a crucial role in guiding and mentoring fellow educators, ensuring they were equipped with the best instructional practices to meet the diverse needs of their students. Her leadership and collaborative approach helped foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Passionate about closing educational disparities and providing additional support to children, LaVonda previously ran a successful tutoring business. Through this endeavor, she focused on bridging the educational gap among children and served as an educational advocate for families. LaVonda worked diligently to create personalized learning plans, tailored to each student's unique strengths and areas for improvement.
Today, LaVonda has shifted her focus to bridging the gap not only through educational disparities, but through community advocacy. In March 2024, LaVonda opened C.A.P.E.S Connect, a community center in Baltimore City where she focuses on academic enrichment for all members within the community. Her vision is to make an impact on the community through education, enrichment and workforce development to increase economic opportunities and exposure for community members.
LaVonda Lyles's unwavering commitment to education, extensive experience in various teaching roles, and dedication to advocating for children have made her a respected figure in the field. She continues to make a profound impact on the lives of students, educators, and the community fostering an inclusive and empowering educational environment for all.
